Abstract

This study assessed the patterns and determinants of healthcare-seeking behaviour among 117 adult residents of Ekpoma. Self-medication (33.3%) and consultation with pharmacists (26.5%) were the most common initial responses to illness. While 40.2% preferred public hospitals, pharmacies were the most used points of care. Major influences on healthcare decisions included cost (39.3%) and proximity (29.9%). The study concludes that interventions aimed at reducing financial barriers and improving service delivery are essential to promote timely care.
